Growing up in Cebu, I’ve been so blessed to have access to beautiful beaches whenever I felt the need to feel the sea breeze and dip my toes into crystal-clear waters. As a child, I fondly remember going with my family and church friends regularly. There were many times I ended up with such a bad sunburn since I just really love swimming and reveling in the beauty of the sun and sea.
Now that I’m older, I appreciate these memories even more, and I want my kids to have the same experience, too. There are many beautiful and luxurious resorts to choose from—all with their own unique charm and amenities.
I’m confident that Cebu truly has something for every type of traveler. Join me as we explore the top resorts in my hometown so that you can also create unforgettable memories with your loved ones.
These resorts are known for their stunning locations, exceptional service, and world-class facilities. Don’t worry, though. I know budget plays a big role when we plan vacations, so I’ve included a variety of options ranging from affordable to high-end luxury resorts.
The globally acclaimed resort chain is a top choice for vacationers who want luxury and relaxation. If you’re in Cebu, their Mactan Resort and Spa is a beachfront sanctuary that offers a perfect blend of wellness, entertainment, and recreational activities.
Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa promises an unforgettable stay, with the accommodations boasting outstanding views of the ocean or gardens. Guests can enjoy a wide range of activities, from leisurely swims in the ocean to exciting water sports and child-friendly facilities that cater to families.
I haven’t stayed at Shangri-La yet, but I’ve attended a wedding there. It’s really a place for luxury and those looking to unwind in style.
Jpark is probably my favorite on the list because of its amenities and customer service. A friend gave us a day pass, which gave us access to the pool, beach, and other amenities. My son enjoyed their kiddie pool so much, with the slides and water activities.
This sprawling resort also has Pororo Park, which is a fun and colorful play area for kids. It’s a great place for both kids and adults to enjoy a day of relaxation and entertainment.
The customer service at Jpark is exceptional. Everyone made us feel welcome and was willing to assist us when we needed help.
Everything about Jpark made me want to try and experience spending at least a night with them. However, it’s on the pricier side, just like Shangri-La, so I’ll need to write more blog posts to afford it. lol
There’s a way to get day passes or overnight stays for cheap, though. I know of the International Travel Festival and Cebu Travel Catalogue International, two local fairs where hotels, resorts, and airlines give huge discounts on their products and services.
Dusit Thani is another Cebu resort on my wishlist. It’s part of the prestigious Dusit International chain, known for its world-class hospitality and service. The resort features luxurious accommodations, a wide range of facilities, and a variety of dining options, such as the Rami Korean Restaurant.
Guests will surely enjoy their stay with the unique blend of traditional Thai hospitality and Filipino warmth. If you’re looking for the perfect combination of world-class service, luxurious amenities, and exquisite dining, Dusit Thani Mactan Cebu is the ideal choice.
The Reef is the newest resort on this list, opening in November 2022. It features stunning infinity pools and panoramic views of the city, mountains, and the vast ocean.
Many guests enjoy the resort’s chic architecture, which complements its picturesque surroundings. The Reef Island Resort offers a modern and stylish atmosphere, making it perfect if you’re looking for a modern and stylish place to stay.
Tambuli is the resort that my family and I frequent. It’s such a beautiful place to relax and unwind. They have many pools to choose from, and the beach area is spacious and serene.
You can book a room with the resort for overnight or short-term stays. If you’re planning on a longer vacation, you can stay in Tambuli Seaside Living, which is a residential stay option with complete access to the resort’s amenities and services.
They also serve a delicious breakfast. Make sure to try their champorado (chocolate rice porridge), sikwate (our local version of hot chocolate), and chorizo (a spiced pork sausage) if they’re available.
BE Resort is a cozy beachfront property that’s ideal if you’re looking for a short staycation just to keep yourself sane. The resort’s minimalist design and cozy ambiance create a peaceful setting for guests to unwind and relax.
BE Resort provides comfortable accommodations and various dining options. There’s also easy access to the beach for guests to enjoy water activities or simply bask in the sun.
Solea offers great value for money as a family-friendly resort. It has two pools and one kiddie pool, which my eldest son loves. He fondly remembers the place and keeps telling me when we could go back for another bout of summer fun.
It has two buildings for accommodations, with spacious rooms suitable for families. Earth, the in-resort restaurant, offers a great breakfast. It’s also easy to order food from FoodPanda and Grab and have it delivered to you in the resort, although you’ll have to meet the delivery person outside the premises.
Crimson Resort and Spa Mactan is a luxurious 5-star beachfront resort that feels like an exclusive piece of paradise but is just 15 minutes away from the Mactan International Airport. It offers stunning ocean views, lush landscaping, and a sophisticated ambiance.
Mövenpick is another 5-star luxury resort that’s accessible for both international and local guests. It provides picturesque views of the Hilutungan Channel and Magellan Bay, giving you a serene and breathtaking backdrop throughout your stay.
Sheraton is another popular name in the hospitality industry as a subsidiary of Marriott International, which is known for its luxurious accommodations and exceptional service. It features an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, and restaurant.
Sumilon is a small sandbar in the south of Cebu. If you’re familiar with Oslob, where whale shark watching is a popular activity, you can take a boat from there to reach the Island. Bluewater Sumilon Island Resort offers a secluded getaway, perfect for unplugging and unwinding.
The resort offers various water activities, such as snorkeling, diving, and island hopping. It’s a perfect getaway for those seeking a tranquil beach escape with excellent amenities and services.
Now, let’s go North to Kandaya Resort, which is located in the coastal heart of historic Daanbantayan. It’s named in homage to Datu Daya, an ancient tribal chieftain and protector of old Bantayan.
If you want a private getaway without having to cross islands, Kandaya Resort is an excellent choice. It provides a serene atmosphere that will help you connect with yourself and immerse yourself in relaxation.
Let’s go back a few kilometers from Daanbantayan and head on to Hagnaya to cross to Bantayan Island. Bantayan is known for its white sand and buwad (dried fish), which boasts a charming seaside experience.
Sta. Fe Beach Club is a quaint resort on Bantayan Island, offering a laid-back ambiance perfect for beach lovers. As you arrive on the island through the ferry, you won’t miss the resort’s white roof and catch a glimpse of its inviting ambiance.
Just be careful of jellyfish season, which typically starts in April and ends in June or early July. We went there in April, and the little critters popped up in the afternoon.
Still on the pristine shores of Bantayan Island lies Kota Beach, where guests wake up to golden sunrises and swim in turquoise waters. Its tranquil environment makes it the perfect place for an afternoon meditation or a peaceful night’s sleep under the stars.
The resort is also a stone’s throw away from the local town, allowing you to explore the locality easily.
Turtle Bay Dive Resort in Moalboal, Cebu, is popular among diving enthusiasts. This family-run PADI 5-Star Dive Resort offers 27 well-equipped air-conditioned rooms, catering to guests looking for a comfortable and memorable stay.
Kasai is another dive resort in Moalboal, which is great for those seeking a first-class dive retreat away from crowded tourist areas. It offers a fully equipped dive center capable of trimix gas blending, rebreather diving, underwater Photography, and facilities for photo editing, equipment servicing, and storage.
Aside from these resorts, you may also want to dive head-on into a local adventure along Cebu’s best beaches. The next places I’m recommending might not have the same level of amenities that the ones above have, but those facilities are only secondary when you witness the breathtaking views and wonders of Cebu’s beachfront gems.
You’ll pass San Remigio on your way to Hagnaya and Daanbantayan. The area offers stretches of white sandy beaches and warm, inviting waters. The town has a laid-back vibe, and the best thing is that its stunning beach is public, so visitors can freely enjoy its beauty.
Must-visit places:
Another beach destination in the northern part of Cebu, Tabuelan is a hidden gem that’s also known for its pristine beaches. With a coastline that faces the Tañon Strait, Tabuelan offers visitors a peaceful retreat. Whether you’re looking for a new place to unwind or an adventure spot, Tabuelan has something for everyone.
Must-visit places:
Medellin is also in the northern part of Cebu, situated between San Remigio and Daanbantayan. Its charm lies in its simplicity, with local fishing communities and untouched natural landscapes providing a backdrop for a short, peaceful holiday.
Must-visit places:
Often considered as Sumilon’s counterpart, Malapascua is at the northern tip of Cebu. It’s a diver’s paradise as well, just like Moalboal, and is famous for its thresher shark sightings.
Malapascua is not just about diving, though; it’s a place where visitors can enjoy relaxation and explore the natural beauty of the island.
Must-visit places:
Now, we head south to Alcoy, home to the famous Tingko Beach, a public beach known for its powdery white sand and crystal-clear waters. With its rich history, including the remnants of Spanish watchtowers, Alcoy not only provides a tranquil beach experience but also a glimpse into the past.
Must-visit places:
This coastal town is famed for the Kawasan Falls, a three-tiered waterfall with turquoise waters and lush surroundings. For a complete experience, you can climb Osmeña Peak, which is situated in Dalaguete and Badian, and go to Kawasan for a refreshing swim. The town has a great mix of beach and mountain attractions for those seeking diverse experiences.
Must-visit places:
I’ve always loved living in Cebu, where you can spend a meditative afternoon in the mountains or enjoy a day of water fun by the beach. The beauty of Cebu lies not only in its stunning beaches and dive spots but also in its rich history and diverse landscapes.
Cebu is a mosaic of experiences waiting to be discovered. I hope you’ve found this guide helpful as you plan your itinerary and explore the wonders of my hometown.
